For formatting characters, apart from changing colour, size, fontfontfont and style, you can also apply text effects: superscriptsuperscriptsuperscript, subscriptsubscriptsubscript, all capitalsall capitalsall capitals (capital letters), small capitalssmall capitalssmall capitals and strikethroughstrikethroughstrikethrough.

Before you begin to perform operations on text, let’s learn basic terms which will be used during this lesson. Various terms used by historians, typeface designers as well as used commonly for defining lowercase and uppercase letters are presented below.

uppercase letters - majuscules – all capitals – all caps – small capitals –
small caps – capitals – block capitals – block letters – capitalized letters

lowercase letters – minuscules – small letters

In order to apply a text effect to selected text, use the tools on the Home tab, in the FontfontFont group (subscriptsubscriptsubscript, superscriptsuperscriptsuperscript, strikethroughstrikethroughstrikethrough) or use the Font dialogue box which appears when you select the arrow icon in the bottom right corner of this group.
