The text presents a dialogue between a bookseller and a client that is interested in how the bookstore stock is selected.
C: Good morning,
BS: Good morning. Good to see you again.
C: You know, I have always been interested in how you select your book stockbook stock.
BS: There are many ways. I like it most to get personally acquainted with the title.
C: Where do you begin?
BS: I run a specialist bookshop therefore usually at the beginning I carefully read the preliminariespreliminaries. Even the name of the author, a specialist from the particular area of knowledge can inform us about the fieldfield and kind of publicationkind of publication.
C: I usually look for the information about the author on the dust jacket flapsflaps, within the introduction or on the forth page of the cover.
BS: Correctly. The publisherpublisher and the name of the seriesname of the series are also important.
C: So you just take the book in your hands and you look at it?
BS: Exactly. A lot of information about the book can be obtained by “thumbing”, reading of the selected fragments of the book.
C: Erm.. therefore this selection is mainly based on your opinion.
BS: To avoid this I use varied sources of information. I have to constantly work on my knowledge.
C: Can you give any example?
BS: Pretty much constantly I watch publishing cataloguespublishing catalogues, reviews in a national press and specialist periodicals. Meeting with the authorsMeeting with the authors are also important for me; however, I don’t always have enough time for them. You also can’t forget about talking to the clientstalking to the clients.
C: How about the internet?
BS: Yes! There are many websites with interesting readers’ opinions about books. With rankings and reviewsreviews.
C: And what do you think about the social media?
BS: I use them all the time. In particular fan pages of the authors. You know, only combination of direct and indirect methods of learning about the offer lets us obtaining the most impartial information about the content and readership purposereadership purpose of the book.
C: It all sounds very interesting, you must be quite knowledgeable. So what new can you recommend?
BS: Actually, I have a few interesting positions for you here.
