Lesson plan overview
Before classes
Students repeat messages regarding the issues of nutrition, breathing and excretion and follow the instructions placed in the abstract.
Introduction
The teacher gives the topic, the goals of the lesson in a language understandable for the student, and the criteria of success.
The teacher asks pupils to formulate their individual success criteria, giving the number of correctly executed commands from particular departments („I remember and understand”, „I read and interpret”, „I solve problems”).
Students, working in pairs, compare tasks from different paragraphs and explain what the specificity of each of them is.
Realization
The teacher instructs students to explain the meaning of the term „metabolism”, referring to the information contained in the abstract.
The teacher displays an interactive illustration of „Sketch maps of concepts” and asks students to identify elements that are missing to illustrate the concept of metabolism. Students redo the illustrations to the notebooks and draw in the missing elements and then write down the definition of metabolism.
The teacher divides the class into five groups. The task of each of them is to discuss the tasks included in the abstract and determine the correct answers.
After the expiration of time, members of each team count to five and remember the number assigned to them. Then draw cards with task numbers for the next group.
The teacher gives the score for each task, then invites the students to play.
Selected students from subsequent groups follow their instructions. Correctness of the answer is assessed by the group asking the instructions, and any doubts are resolved by the teacher.
Each group sums up the points scored, the teacher indicates the winning team.
Summary
The teacher asks students to carry out the recommended interactive exercise themselves.
Homework
Listen to the abstract recording at home. Pay attention to pronunciation, accent and intonation. Learn to pronounce the words learned during the lesson.

Metabolism
Every organ and biological system that builds the body fulfils certain tasks. The digestive system collects, digests and absorbs food and removes undigested residue from the body. The respiratory system provides gas exchange. The role of the urinary tract is to cleanse the body of unnecessary and harmful substances formed as a result of metabolism. The circulatory system deals with the transport of substances between these systems. However, the immune system associated with it is responsible for protecting the body against pathogens. Different systems enable efficient functioning of cells in which metabolic changes take place.
