X. The number line. The coordinate system in a planeplaneplane. The student:

2) finds the coordinatescoordinatescoordinates of the given (in the drawing) grid in the coordinate system in the plane;

3) draws the grids with given integer coordinates (of any sign) in the coordinate system in the plane.

Lesson stages

Introductionmb4c5db64f8c7cbbf_1528450127855_0Introduction

The teacher prepares for each pair of students:

- the planeplaneplane ticket,
- the pieces of paper with Roman numerals to number the rows in the classroom,
- the pieces of paper with Arabic numerals to number the chairs of each rowrowrow,
- the ticket for each student with the numbers of the row and the chair.

The teacher puts the desks in the rows, sticks the cards with the Roman numbers to the desks and the cards with the Arabic numbers to the chairs.

The students get the tickets describing which seat should they take. They are supposed to sit on the right places.

Proceduremb4c5db64f8c7cbbf_1528446435040_0Procedure

Teacher introduces the topic of the lesson: specifying the coordinatescoordinatescoordinates on the seating plans of the cinemacinemacinema and the theatre or on the aircraft seating chartchartchart.

Task 1

The students work in pairs. They are given a theatre ticket and decide what seatseatseat should they take.

Next, some of the students answer the following questions:

a) How can we describe the positionpositionposition of the seats of the auditorium in the cinemacinemacinema or theatre?
b) What seatseatseat does the person in front of you take?
c) What seat does the person who sits two rows behind you take?
d) What seat does the person on the left take?
e) What seat does the person on the third chair on the right take?

Task 2

The students work individually using their computers. They are going to give the viewers the appropriate seat.

Task 3

The drawing shows the seating plan of the cinemacinemacinema. The seats marked with orange have been already taken.

Answer the following questions:

a) How many seats are there in the cinema?
b) How many seats are still available?
c) How many booked seats are indicated with the number 7?
d) In which row all seats are available?
e) Which rows have the least number of people?
f) How many seats marked with the odd numbers are available in the VIII row?

Task  4

The students work in pairs. They are shown the aircraft seating chart and given the planeplaneplane tickets.

The students are going to analyse the chart and answer the following questions:

a) How many rows are available for the passengers?
b)How many seats are there in each row?
c)What letters are the seats by the window indicated with?
d) How many seats are there by the window?
e) What part of the plane is the seat described in the ticket situated?

Task 5

Look at the aircraft seating chartchartchart and answer the following questions:

a) Do the people having the seats of 19D and 18D sit next to each other?
b) Are the seats 24C and 24D placed next to each other?
c) Does the person having the seatseatseat of 4C sit by the window?
d) Does the person having the seat of 9B sit in the front part of the planeplaneplane?
e) Do the people having the seats of 6A and 6B sit next to the window on the right side?

An extra task:

Design and draw the treasure map with the places described by the coordinatescoordinatescoordinates. Use them to describe the place where the treasure hunt starts. Give some clues to find the treasure.

Lesson summarymb4c5db64f8c7cbbf_1528450119332_0Lesson summary

The students do the summarising tasks.

Then together they sum up the classes drawing the conclusions to memorise:

- The seats situated in the cinemacinemacinema, the theatre or on the planeplaneplane are usually described by the ordered pair of symbols. The pair may consists for example of the Roman or Arabic numerical and of the number or the letter.
