Students write down twenty different common fractions of different denominators. Then they mark with a blue colour those that have numbers 10, 100, 1000… in the denominators or those that can be simplified or extended to denominator 10, 1000, 1000…

The teacher informs students that these fractions are called decimal fractions.
Decimal fractions, like twenty four hundreds or one and three tens can be written down in two ways:

- As common fractions: 24100; 1310

- As decimal fractions, using the point: 0.24; 1.3.

A point seperates the whole part from the decimal partdecimal partdecimal part.

Task
Students work individually, using computers. Their task is to observe the relation between fractions marked on the number line in the common form and in the decimal form.

Students work using the JIGSAW method.

The JIGSAW method:

The teacher divides students into 3 persons groups. Each member of the group gets different task from the tasks below. After solving the tasks, students gather in groups that were doing the same task. They discuss the solutions and clarify any doubts. Then, they return to the initial groups and present the solutions to other members.
