Introductionm5bdcf5b2c7d3136d_1528450127855_0Introduction

Every student prepares a deck of 15 cards cut out of a cardboard. He marks the top of each card with a symbol or a colour to differ his cards from other students’ cards.

The student writes one of the following numbers on each card:

0.7 0.007 7.5 7.05 7.43 7.34 74.3 7.05 7.430 11.4 5.06 5.91 0.12 0.45 or 0.102.

The teacher prepares a set of three cards including one of the following letters: A, B or C.

The students play learning game and revise the method of comparing the natural numbers and the common fractions. They also convert the common fractions in the decimal ones.

The teacher introduces the topic of the lesson: comparison of the decimal fractionscomparison of the decimal fractionscomparison of the decimal fractions.

Task 1

The students work individually using their computers. They are going to analyse the slideshow concerning the comparison of the decimal fractionscomparison of the decimal fractionscomparison of the decimal fractions.

[Slideshow 1]

The students use the information they have gained to compare the decimal fractions. Next, in pairs, they compare their results.

Task 2

Compare the fractions by filling the gap with the appropriate sign of  >, < or =.

a) 6.78 ___ 13.1

b) 25.8 ___ 25.3

c) 50.3 ___ 50.300

d) 61.09 ___ 61.009

e) 3.16 ___ 3.4

f) 5.91 ___ 5.63

g) 71.103 ___ 71.101

h) 8.61 ___ 8.6.

Task 3

Put the following fractions:  7.08 3.9 7.121 3.91 7.025 in the ascending order.m5bdcf5b2c7d3136d_1527752256679_0Put the following fractions:  7.08 3.9 7.121 3.91 7.025 in the ascending order.

Task  4

During a 200 metre run the best  contestants got the following results : 26.3 s, 26.11 s, 26.24. Who has won the race?

The students, in pairs play the card game called The Battle. They use the decks of cards they have prepared for the lesson. The winner is the person who first takes away all the opponent’s card.

An extra task:

Put the following numbers in the descendingdescendingdescending order:

112100;1,2;112;134;1,012;1,02;1,51.

Lesson summarym5bdcf5b2c7d3136d_1528450119332_0Lesson summary

The students do the summarising tasks.

Then they sum up the class drawing the conclusions to memorise:

- While comparing the decimal fractions we compare the integer parts of the decimal fractions first.
- If the integer parts are equal we consider the digits after the dot. We compare step by step tens, hundreds, thousands etc.
