Lesson plan overview (Process)
Introduction
1. The teacher defines the purpose of the course: the students talk about travelling, learn about homonyms.
2. The teacher asks the students if they like travelling, which countries they have already visited and which they would like to see in the near future. The teacher, together with the students, formulate the answer to the question what are the benefits of travelling.
Realization
1. The teacher and the students open the lesson entitled “Expedition, expotition”. The students do interactive exercise 1 – in the “word search” they are to find the synonym of the word “travel”, and then, together with the teacher, discuss the differences between individual words.
2. The students read the text entitled “Biegun Północny” (The North Pole), paying special attention to the course of the expedition. Basing on the text, the students form, individually, the plan of events and explain which pole Winnie the Pooh reached and how it managed to do it. Next, they are to find in the text the words that Winnie the Pooh did not understand and give their synonyms. Selected students read their answers.
3. The teacher refers to the word “pole” and explains what homonyms are (gives examples). In pairs, the students do the task in the abstract – they look for their examples of homonyms.
4. The teacher reminds which pole Winnie the Pooh reached and asks the students if they know how the real North Pole looks like. The students look at the interactive map of the Arctic's fauna, flora, climate and population in the abstract.
5. The teacher asks the students if they know any travellers who reached the North Pole. He directs the conversation to the figure of Jaś Mela. The students listen to the interview with Jaś Mela and, together, think about the benefits of travelling (with other student(s) or alone).
Summary
The teacher asks the students questions, e.g.
What do you associate with the word travel?
What synonyms of the word travel do you know?
What is homonymy?
What does it mean to reach the North Pole? And in Polish: „zdobyć biegun”?
