XIII. Reading data and elements of descriptive statistics. The student:

1) interprets data presented in the form of tables, percentage bar charts and percentage pie charts, graphs, including graphs in the coordinate system;

2) creates percentage bar charts and percentage pie charts and line graphs based on gathered information or information coming from various sources.

Lesson stages

Introductionm155c0eb5b007105a_1528450127855_0Introduction

Students bring to the class diagrams, cut out of newspapers, posters, leaflets, etc.

In pairs, they talk about information presented on those diagrams. They revise diagrams they saw at the last lesson.

Procedurem155c0eb5b007105a_1528446435040_0Procedure

Task

Students work individually, using computers. They observe how the percentage diagramspercentage diagramspercentage diagrams – pie chart and bar chartbar chartbar chart – change, depending on data.

Task

Then, the poster is passed to another group. They answer each question on the poster and add a new question under each diagram.

The poster goes to another group. We make turns until the poster returns to its authors.

Groups discuss each poster and information obtained based on them.

The teacher evaluates the students’ work and clarifies doubts.

An extra task:

Make a questionnaire about any subject among students of your class and create a percentage diagram presenting obtained results. The teacher divides the class into four people groups. Each group makes a poster out of four diagrams that they brought. The result has to be consistent and visually original. Under each diagram, they write one question about it.

Lesson summarym155c0eb5b007105a_1528450119332_0Lesson summary

Students do the revision exercises. Then together they sum‑up the classes, by formulating the conclusions to memorise.
