To write numbers a Roman Numerals we use seven signs: I – 1, V – 5, X – 10, L – 50, C – 100, D – 500, M – 1000.
To write a number we use maximum three identical of these: I, X, C, M.
We never put two of these signs V, L, D next to each other.
If the symbols are in decreasing order, then we add the values they represent, for example: VI – 6, MMM – 3000, DC – 600.
If the symbol of a smaller number occurs before the symbol of a greater number, then we subtract the smaller value from the greater value: IV – 4, IX – 9, CD – 400.
