Who was she?
She was the Queen fromfrom 1837 toto 1901, for almost 64 years! She was born in Kensington Palace and she lived in London. Queen Victoria spoke English but her first language was German. How is it possible? Her mother was a German princessprincess and her father was a British princeprince, Prince Edward.
Queen Victoria became the Queen when she was only 18. She was the Queen of Great Britain, but she also ruledruled Australia, South Africa, India, New Zealand, and Canada. These countries were in the British Empirethe British Empire.
What did she do?
Queen Victoria was interested in many things. When she became the Queen, she started to live at Buckingham Palace. She did a lot of repairsrepairs there. Queen Victoria was also the first British monarch who travelled on a train, and used electric lights and a telephone. She was also an artist. She enjoyed painting, drawing, and writing. What is more, she spoke severalseveral languages: English, French, and Italian. She knew German, but didn't speak it in her adult life.
What about her family?
She met Prince Albert and married himmarried him in 1840. She had a very big family. Do you know how many children they had? Nine! Queen Victoria and Prince Albert had 9 children and 42 grandchildren. That’s a lot! In 1861, her husband died. She was very sad and she wore only black clothes for 40 years.
She died in 1901 at the age of 82. Her son, Albert Edward, became the king.
