A year ago, we decided to do something crazy and bought a school bus. We’d always wanted to have a mobile home and, with two kids, vandwelling wasn’t an option. But a bus was a good option. We’re going to completely change the interior, but the exterior will remain the same. Some of the work is already done. We haven't gotten around to working on the kitchen and bathroom yet because we’re still waiting for the water pump we ordered but the sleeping arrangements are finished. We managed to fit a double bed into the van and two pull‑out sofas, so we’ve got plenty of sleeping space. To some, the living space in a bus might seem cramped, especially for a family with kids, but you get used to it. It was actually cheaper than a stationary house and, although we’re going to spend a lot on petrol all year round, we’re hoping to save a lot on rent and holiday accommodation and be able to go on many amazing journeys.

Today, homes on wheels continued. Or maybe I should say homes with wings, as we’re talking planes again. Although this one doesn't actually have them anymore so it’s really neither this, nor that, no category really. The guy’s name is Joe Axeline and this kind of house had been his life‑long dream. Recently, he was finally able to find two halves of two planes, fuselages only really, because they’re missing tails and wings. They were transported to his land where he could start working on them. The first one is already finished and it is fitted with a kitchen, three bedrooms and a bathroom, and all the creature comforts its owner might need. It’s already Joe’s permanent home and now he’s working on the other half that’s standing right next to the first one. This one is supposed to become an entertainment center. Because Joe loves planes he made sure to preserve as many airplane features as possible, including the cockpits and the equipment used by the flight attendants.

Hi everyone, first of all about the article itself. I think it’s fantastic that such unusual homes are presented. Everyone else writes about decorating kitchens or living rooms, so it’s a nice change.

@Mark247 - I disagree with you. Such articles are needed to show that not everyone has to live in a typical home. People should realise that there are other ways to live and that it’s OK.

Last year I read about this guy who turned an ambulance into a home. It was easy, because it already had lights inside and places to sit, as well as electricity, because it was needed for the medics.

Personally, I’d love to stay on a plane or train. Maybe not live in one permanently, because I love big cities and such homes are for the countryside. But for holidays, just to see what it's like.

What about you guys? Would you like to stay in a place like this?
