Introductionm81a066316cfdf052_1528450127855_0Introduction

The teacher starts a conversation about various methods of payment.

- What is the current payment unitpayment unitpayment unit in Poland?

- What nominal values of coins and banknotes are used in Poland?

- What currencies are used in other countries?

- In which countries is euroeuroeuro used?

Procedurem81a066316cfdf052_1528446435040_0Procedure

Students work individually, using computers. They open the slideshow and learn about coins and banknotes that we use in Poland every day.

[Slideshow]

The teacher divides students into four persons groups. Using obtained information, students do the exercises and problems containing money calculations.

Task 1

Knowing that in our country prices are given in:

- złoty

- grosz

- złotyzłotyzłoty and groszgroszgrosz

and that 1 zł = 100 gr,

fill in the tables:

a)

[Table 1]

b)

[Table 2]

Task 2

- In order to add sums of money, we can use one of the given ways:

I way: 4 zł 50 gr + 6 zł 90 gr = 10 zł 140 gr = 11 zł 40 gr
II way: 4 zł 50 gr + 6 zł 90 gr = 450 gr + 690 gr = 1140 gr = 11 zł 40 gr

- In order to subtract sums of money, we can use one of the given ways:

I way: 15 zł - 6 zł 40 gr = 14 zł 100 gr - 6 zł 40 gr = 8 zł 60 gr
II way: 15 zł - 6 zł 40 gr = 1500 gr - 640 gr = 860 gr = 8 zł 60 gr

Each students draws a piece of paper with a task and solves it whichever way they want.

They present their exercises and the solution to other members of the group.

1) Marysia bought 2 pencils, 85 groszy each and a notebook that costed 1 zł 40 gr in the school stop. How much change did she get from 5 zł?
2) Tomek has 15 zł 50 gr in his piggybank. He got 100 coins 10 groszy each from his uncle. How much savings does he have now?
3) Maciek wanted to buy a chocolate bar that costs 5 zł 60 gr in the automatic machine. He already inserted two 2 zł coins. How many more and what kind of coins he has to insert?
4) Mum bought coffee for 18 zł 40 gr and milk for 3 zł 20 gr. How much did she pay for the shopping?
5) A set of five pencils costs 10 zł. One pencil costs 2 zł 35 gr. By how many zł is the pencil bought in the set cheaper?

The teacher sums up the students’ work and clarifies doubts.

Task 3

The teacher puts enveloped on the desk. There is a name and a price of some products on each one of them.

Students ‘buy’ the products so that the amount spent on shopping is as high as possible, but does not exceed 100 zł.

The student who does the most expensive shopping wins. Exceeding 100 zł eliminates the student from the game.

Cards prepared by the teacher:

The teacher sums up the students’ work and clarifies doubts.

An extra task:

Kasia bought 20 dag of candies, 25 zł per kilogram. How much did she pay?
