X. The number line. The coordinate system on a plane. The student:

2) finds coordinates of points (in the drawing) marked on the coordinate system on a plane;

3) draws points of given, integer coordinates (of any sign) on the coordinate system.

Introductionmd194a87101807974_1528450127855_0Introduction

The teacher introduces the subject of the lesson – identifying or finding location of a place on a theatretheatretheatre or cinemacinemacinema audienceaudienceaudience based on its coordinates.

Proceduremd194a87101807974_1528446435040_0Procedure

Discussion – how do we find places on the audienceaudienceaudience of a cinemacinemacinema or a theatretheatretheatre? Students do brainstorming and describe situations from everyday life. They look for examples of various cinemacinemacinema and theatretheatretheatre rooms on the Internet.

Wandering posters

The teacher divides the class into 4 teams. Each groups prepares a project of a theatretheatretheatre room with marked occupied places for a given show. Under the plan of the audienceaudienceaudience each group writes a question about location of free and occupied places.

Each group writes down the answer and passes the piece of paper to the next group for them to fill it in. There are as many rounds as groups. After having finished the exercise, students hang the poster on the wall and together analyse results and draw conclusions.

Students work individually, using computers. Their task is to give the rowrowrow and the place of a marked seat in a cinemacinemacinema room.

Students’ conclusions

- Places on the cinema or theatre audience are described with an ordered pair.md194a87101807974_1527752263647_0Places on the cinema or theatre audience are described with an ordered pair. It can be Roman numbers, Arabic numbers or numbers and letters.md194a87101807974_1527752256679_0It can be Roman numbers, Arabic numbers or numbers and letters.

Students use obtained information in exercises.

Task 1
In the picture there are occupied places in the cinemacinemacinema room.

[Illustration 1]

Answer the questions:

1. In which rowrowrow can three people sit next to each other, on free places?

2. How many occupied seats with number 8 are there?

3. How many free seats are in the rowrowrow III?

Task 2
[Illustration 2]

Orange seats on the theatretheatretheatre audienceaudienceaudience are occupied. Students work in pairs. One student asks two questions about places on the audienceaudienceaudience and the other answers them. Then students change roles.

Task 3
[Illustration 3]

In the picture there is a plan of a theatretheatretheatre room. Black points are occupied places.

Answer the questions:

1. How many rows are there in the theatretheatretheatre room?

2. In which rows all places are free?

3. In which rowrowrow there is the place number 54?

4. How many places in the room are free?

5. In which rowrowrow there are the most occupied places?

The teacher sums up students work. The teacher reward students who wrote the best solutions with the highest marks.

An extra task:
Design a theatretheatretheatre audienceaudienceaudience where there are 7 rows and 9 places in each rowrowrow. Ask students from your class which place they want to take and mark them on the plan. Remember that boys can only take places in even rows.
