Study the texts again and match the statements to the speakers. SPEAKER 1 For me, the greatest problem with foreign language learning is motivation, you know something that gives you a reason for learning, instead of forcing you to give up. So, my tip is to go to an English-speaking country either for a language course, holidays or as a weekend getaway where you can actually have a go at practicing your English. You’ll see that it’s truly uplifting when you realize that you can actually use your language skills to successfully communicate with people abroad. SPEAKER 2 I guess that motivation is a driving factor when it comes to learning a foreign language. That’s why do what you love doing but do that in English. For instance, if you’re into listening to music, listen to English songs, try to memorize the lyrics by singing and jotting down the words or phrases you find interesting or useful. Besides, singing will definitely improve your pronunciation. It’s a really cool and beneficial way of learning a foreign language. SPEAKER 3 In my opinion, what is crucial in being a successful language learner is the way of practicing. I’ve always hated books, that’s why you’d never see me learning new words by doing exercises from textbooks. I find it pretty tedious and discouraging. Instead, I always try to reach for more realistic materials like slowly spoken podcasts, movies with subtitles or simply computer games. My tip for you is, if there’s something you find unenjoyable in your native language, remember that you’ll enjoy it even less in a foreign language. SPEAKER 4 What really helps me boost my English language communication skills is keeping in touch with foreigners I meet while being on holidays abroad. The thing is that I make friends easily, so whenever I go somewhere, I try to hang out with foreigners whenever I get the chance. At the beginning I wasn’t fluent enough to join a conversation without making mistakes, but with time I’ve noticed a significant improvement. Then after getting back home I continue the relationship by chatting on skype or texting. So, I strongly advise you to try it for yourself.
