The Pilgrims couldn't grow enough food to eat. Native Americans helped them and the Pilgrims harvestedharvested a lot of food. To thank them for this, the Pilgrims invited them to a big feastfeast. This is how the traditiontradition started. Let’s see how it’s celebrated in different families.
Maya
Thanksgiving is very important for our family. It’s a national holiday, so we don’t go to school and our parents don’t go to work. We meet at my grandma’s house to celebrate this special day. I always go there earlier with my brother to help set up the tableset up the table. My aunt Georgie brings her famous pumpkin piepumpkin pie. It’s delicious! I’m a big fan of Thanksgiving corncorn, and my grandpa prepares it differently every year. I wonder what it will be like this year?
Peter
Every year I have a special tasktask: I go with my dad to buy two big turkeysturkeys for our family. Two, because there are eighteen people coming over! It’s only the closest family. We start to prepare the mealsmeals a week before Thanksgiving. Can you imagine a potpot of gravygravy and kilograms of green beansgreen beans? We have exactly that! My parents always hosthost a Thanksgiving dinner at our house. I love the atmosphere of this day, when we say what we are thankfulthankful for and we’re very happy together. The more, the merrierThe more, the merrier!
Lily
In my family we celebrate Thanksgiving, but it’s not a big feast. We eat traditional food, but usually we just orderorder our favourite meals from restaurants. This way we don’t have any food to throw awaythrow away and we don’t waste timewaste time preparing. I love mashedmashed potatoespotatoes with cranberry saucecranberry sauce. We like to spend time actively, so we go for a long walk and watch the paradeparade.
