The first element I find cheap is wooden gingerbread trims. They hardly appear in my country and they look like they are from a tale giving them a kind of folk sense. Life in the Victorian Era

Victorian era spanned more than 60 years and involved a great number of changes, which included peoples’ living conditions and styles of housing, among which there are the Queen Anne and Italianate ones.

The Victorian style of building is associated with the time when Queen Victoria reigned in Great Britain, from 1837 to 1901. Living conditions of people, particularly factory workers, were often unsatisfactory. Large families lived in a cramped room with no water or waste facilities. There was one toilet available for many people. In 1848 came some regulations that finally set a standard. People had proper drainage and sanitation features.

Two of the most popular styles from that era are Italianate and Queen Anne. Italianate style houses are usually of the rectangular shape with tall skinny windows, rounded at the top. They have a belvedere and long reaching eaves. While Queen Anne style is characterised by asymmetrical shape and a very unique roof, which can be either steeply pitched or multi angled. It’s also rich in towers and turrets. Both styles are famous for detailed ornaments and gingerbread trims.

Houses from the Victorian times are often shown on TV, in some films, and series. Next time you watch your favourite American or English movie, pay more attention to spot the Queen Anne or Italianate styles.
